The recipe, by strength
Each one fills this brewer as far as it honestly goes. Numbers are for a light roast steeping in the fridge.
| Strength | Ratio | Coffee | Water | Steep | Makes | Drink it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Everyday | 1:9.5 | 75 g | 713 mL | 18–22 h | about 2½ cups | straight over ice |
| Strong | 1:7.5 | 86 g | 645 mL | 18–22 h | about 2¼ cups | with a splash of milk |
| Jet fuel | 1:5.3 | 86 g | 456 mL | 18–22 h | about 2 cups | cut with a little water or milk |
| Concentrate | 1:4.5 | 86 g | 387 mL | 18–22 h | about 2¼ cups | mixed 1:1 with water or milk |
If your beans are darker
Darker roasts give up their flavor faster, so they brew at a slightly wider ratio and steep for less time.
| Roast | Ratio | Coffee | Water | Steep in the fridge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light | 1:9.5 | 75 g | 713 mL | 18–22 h |
| Medium | 1:10 | 72 g | 720 mL | 14–18 h |
| Dark | 1:10.5 | 69 g | 727 mL | 10–14 h |

How it goes
- Grounds in.
- Water over.
- Stir once.
- Lid on, plunger up.
Grind coarse, about the size of coarse sea salt. Find the number for your grinder.
Good to know
Needs a coarse-to-very-coarse grind (Kinder to kosher-salt size or coarser) — finer grounds slip past the metal mesh plunger screen and end up in your cup. Because there's no paper/felt filtration, sediment carryover is inherently higher than in filtered brewers, and the plunge should be slow and gentle at the end of steeping rather than a hard push, to avoid forcing fines through the mesh or disturbing the settled grounds bed. Otherwise it behaves like a plain immersion vessel: add grounds, add water, stir once, steep, then plunge and pour.
This brewer takes about 86 g of coffee at most. Stronger recipes can’t add more grounds, so they use less water instead. That is why every strength comes in under the full 900 mL.
