The maker’s own recipe

This is the recipe Takeya publishes for this brewer, and it is what Cold Brew Studio opens with when you pick it. It makes about 3 cups, best straight over ice.
How the maker does it
Add 1 1/4 cups (approx. 106g) of coarsely ground coffee to the mesh filter and twist it into the lid. Fill the pitcher with cold filtered water until almost full, leaving 1/2 inch of space at the top (below the threading) — roughly 1 quart (946ml). Lower the filter in, seal the lid, and shake for 30 seconds to saturate the grounds. Refrigerate 12-24 hours (Takeya's brew-guide page gives a 12-24h window; a separate Takeya blog recipe for the same pitcher simply says 'refrigerate for 24 hours'), shaking occasionally. Remove the filter when done. Serve as a concentrate: pour over ice and cut with water or milk to taste, roughly 1:1 (or 3/4 concentrate : 1/4 milk/water for a stronger cup); for hot coffee, mix 1 part concentrate with 2 parts hot water. Keeps refrigerated up to 2 weeks.

The recipe, by strength
Each one fills this brewer as far as it honestly goes. Numbers are for a light roast steeping in the fridge.
| Strength | Ratio | Coffee | Water | Steep | Makes | Drink it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Everyday | 1:9.5 | 100 g | 946 mL | 18–22 h | about 3¼ cups | straight over ice |
| Strong | 1:7.5 | 110 g | 825 mL | 18–22 h | about 2½ cups | with a splash of milk |
| Jet fuel | 1:5.3 | 110 g | 583 mL | 18–22 h | about 2¼ cups | cut with a little water or milk |
| Concentrate | 1:4.5 | 110 g | 495 mL | 18–22 h | about 2¼ cups | mixed 1:1 with water or milk |
If your beans are darker
Darker roasts give up their flavor faster, so they brew at a slightly wider ratio and steep for less time.
| Roast | Ratio | Coffee | Water | Steep in the fridge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light | 1:9.5 | 100 g | 946 mL | 18–22 h |
| Medium | 1:10 | 95 g | 946 mL | 14–18 h |
| Dark | 1:10.5 | 90 g | 946 mL | 10–14 h |

How it goes
- Grounds in the basket.
- Water over, slowly.
- Stir once.
- Lid on, into the fridge.
Grind coarse, about the size of coarse sea salt. Find the number for your grinder.
Good to know
Brewed as a concentrate meant to be cut roughly 1:1 with water or milk over ice before drinking, not sipped straight — the in-pitcher ratio (about 1:8.9) is much stronger than a ready-to-drink cup. Otherwise a plain coarse-grind immersion brew.
This brewer takes about 110 g of coffee at most. Stronger recipes can’t add more grounds, so they use less water instead. That is why Strong, Jet fuel and Concentrate come in under the full 946 mL.
