The maker’s own recipe

1:4175 g coffee700 mL watersteep 12–24 h

This is the recipe OXO publishes for this brewer, and it is what Cold Brew Studio opens with when you pick it. It makes about 3 cups, best mixed 1:1 with water or milk.

How the maker does it

OXO's printed instruction manual for the Compact Cold Brew Coffee Maker: fill the brewing container with coarsely ground coffee up to the coffee-bean line (6 oz/175g), place the perforated 'Rainmaker' showerhead disc on top, then pour 24 oz/700mL of water around the Rainmaker so it diffuses evenly over the grounds without disturbing them (do not stir). Place the lid on and brew on the counter 12-24 hours or in the fridge 20-24 hours. This yields about 16 oz of concentrate (5-7 drinks) — noticeably less than the 24 oz of water poured in, since the water passes down through the packed grounds bed and coffee retains some of it. After brewing, set the container on the glass carafe and the concentrate drains automatically through the built-in filter (no squeezing/pressing needed). OXO recommends a 1:2 or 1:3 dilution of concentrate to water or milk (e.g., 2 oz/60mL concentrate + 4-6 oz/120-180mL water or milk), noting the ratio and bean-line marking are 'great starting points' to be adjusted per roast.

The recipe, by strength

Each one fills this brewer as far as it honestly goes. Numbers are for a light roast steeping in the fridge.

If your beans are darker

Darker roasts give up their flavor faster, so they brew at a slightly wider ratio and steep for less time.

Good to know

Water is poured through a perforated 'Rainmaker' showerhead that diffuses it evenly over the grounds bed without stirring (reduces channeling), and after steeping the concentrate self-drains through a built-in reusable mesh filter into the carafe — closer to a mini drip-through immersion than a stir-and-strain device. That's also why only about 16oz of concentrate comes out of the 24oz of water poured in: the packed grounds bed retains some water rather than releasing it all back, unlike a fully submerged steeper basket.
